The Games the Media Plays
September 10th, 2008We are 8 weeks away from choosing our next president ~ get ready for the all out assault that is going to take place against the entire Republican Party.
It was not too long ago that the media was bragging about Senator McCain for not being a typical Republican, and how much better a president he would be than President Bush. Some in the media took it so far as to say they were not Republicans but they would vote for him because he was different.
That was before he won the Republican Presidential Nomination. Now Senator John McCain is being portrayed by the same media as simply a clone of President Bush, whom they despise because President Bush never capitulated to their idea of how the country should be run yet he was elected to two terms as President.
The games the media plays should serve as a notice to all Republican Candidates in Nevada, that the press will never like you simply because you are a Republican. Don’t sweat it ~ accept it and move on with your campaign. Do not, under any circumstances, let the media force you off your message. Rely heavily on your campaign staff and volunteers to get your message to the public when the media fails to.
Illegal immigration is a sore spot with most Nevadans and it transcends party affiliations. This is an issue that not even the main stream media can attack you on. When they try to pin you down as a Republican and tell you how Senator McCain has changed his views, the simple answer is to say that you have never changed your views.
It is unfortunate that the media and the public seem to respond more towards presidential candidates and less towards local politicians. The locally elected officials have much more influence in our daily lives.
